CHECKLIST FOR SENIORS - Fall

August - September

· Begin writing the first draft of your essays
· Complete your resume, student brag sheet, and parent brag sheet (brag sheets are on Family Connection under the document library)
· Have your essays proofread by a teacher/mentor
· Sign up for an October SAT or ACT test if needed
· Do a scholarship search online through www.fastweb.com or www.austinisd.org
· Finalize your list of 4-8 colleges that you plan to apply to

October

Testing
· Sign up for a December SAT or ACT Test if needed
· Check on after school SAT tutoring if needed

Essays, College Applications, and Scholarships
· Speak with your teachers and counselors about writing you a good letter of recommendation
· Have your essays proofread by as many people as possible and prepare a final draft for submission
· Continue to attend College-Recruiting visits and consider attending the Centex College Fair
· Complete Apply Texas for Texas public schools and/or the Common Application if applying to private or out-of-state schools
· Request that transcripts be sent to your colleges (by going to Family Connection, the About Colleges Section, then the Transcripts link)
· Submit finalized applications and essays by Halloween!
· Check with your colleges to find out about housing. (UT applicants should apply for housing early. The application can be submitted on October 1st.)

Scholarships
· Download the October AISD Scholarship List (www.austinisd.org)
· Fill out and submit at least one scholarship application

November

Admission
· Contact your colleges to make sure they have received all of your application materials
· Update Family Connection and Ms. Duffy when you receive college admission letters

Testing
· Sign up for the December SAT test if needed- Deadline: November
· Sign up for December ACT test if needed- Deadline: November

Scholarships
· Look at AISD Scholarships on the web
· Fill out at least one scholarship application

December

· Fill out at least two scholarship applications
· Submit Housing Application
· Update Family Connection and bring Mrs. Duffy a copy of your college admission letters

January

· Check on application deadlines (UT & A&M deadline is February)
· Start gathering information and filling out FAFSA (submit if possible)
· Fill out at least two scholarship applications
· Complete and send college housing application
· Attend the FAFSA workshop on February 2nd at Akins

February

· Complete and send college applications for “safe” colleges, if necessary
· Attend Financial Aid Workshop
· Complete the FAFSA online (must complete by college’s financial aid deadline date)
· Contact Financial Aid Office at “chosen” college if you have special circumstances

Scholarships
· Fill out scholarship applications
· Do a scholarship search online

March

· Check admission status for safe schools
· Register for the THEA test, unless exempt
· Update Family Connection and give Ms. Duffy a copy of your college admission letters.

Scholarships
· Continue to fill out scholarship applications
· Continue scholarship search online

April

· Check the mail and online for college admission letters
· Check the mail and online for financial aid package award letters
· Call financial aid office to check on package (if you do not receive a financial aid package award letter by the end of April)
· Return letter of intent to attend “chosen” college and submit deposit (deadline for most colleges is May 1st)
· Evaluate and return financial aid award letters
